The two objectives of the five member Social
Ministries Board at Trinity Lutheran church are to:
1. extend Christian
compassion and helpfulness to people in need and
2. to inform members of
Trinity about social issues and concerns.
Our board has great education
and action resources through the ELCA including programs such as ELCA World
Hunger, ELCA Malaria Project, ELCA Good Gifts as well as Lutheran Word Relief
and Lutheran Social Services. We believe in challenging ourselves and our
congregation to look beyond our doors and reach out to people in need wherever
they might be.
The educational programs and giving opportunities help us
embrace the concept of “doing justice” in this world. Justice is defined as
“faith active in love.” We want to be God’s hands working to address the
inequities we find all around us while simultaneously becoming more aware of the
needs that exist.
Most recently we have participated in the ELCA Malaria
campaign, held a Fair Trade Fair through Lutheran World Relief and advocated for
congregational monetary support for Lutheran Campus Ministry. We have also
presented some education pieces focusing on water resources and world hunger.
Now that the Sleepy Eye Area Food Shelf is again up and running we intend to
renew our ongoing collection of food and funds to support this needed community
resource.
